Pleasant Cove Oysters from Damariscotta, ME

Pleasant Cove Oysters from Damariscotta, ME

NEW offering! Available for a limited time only.

Farmer: Clay Gilbert and Greg Johnson

Location: Damariscotta River, Maine

Size: 2.5-3"

How they're grown: These oysters are top cultured in cages on 2 acres at the mouth of the Damariscotta. The farm is tucked up into a cove, but when the tide moves in and out, the oysters are flushed with plenty of food and nutrients due to its proximity to the ocean at the river mouth.

How they taste: These are just as delicious as they look! Regular contact with ocean water gives a nice, salty brine upfront that finishes smooth and sweet.

Why they're unique: Pleasant Coves are perfectly cupped, beautifully round and consistent, and super clean...all at the hands of Mother Nature. The river mouth gets tons of wave action, and while many other oysters require hand tumbling or shaking to create a desirable shape, these oysters look [and taste!] the way they do simply as a byproduct of their environment. Mother Nature, take the wheel!

Story: Pleasant Cove was born in 2019 to Clay, a lobsterman, and Greg, a small business owner. To Clay, growing oysters was a natural progression within his world; he was familiar with the water, already had most of the equipment, and saw it as just another piece of the puzzle. This is Greg's second business venture, and the pair love working outside and spending time in nature.
